Northeastern returned to the NCAA tournament for the sixth time in program history, and second time in the last three seasons after earning an at-large bid to the national tournament. The Huskies finished the 2017-18 campaign with a record of 23-10-5, the third most victories in program history, and finished second in the Hockey East standings for just the third time in team history.

Junior Adam Gaudette stole the show all season long, leading the NCAA with 60 points and 30 goals, while senior Dylan Sikura had 54 points (22 goals, 32 assists), good for third in the NCAA and and NCAA-leading 14 power play goals, and captain Nolan Stevens tied a career-high with 42 points on a career-best 24 goals (tied for fifth in the NCAA).

Together, Adam Gaudette, Sikura and Stevens combined for 76 goals, including 36 on the power play. Northeastern's Big Three were one of the most lethal offensive lines in the country, while making NU the only team in the NCAA to have three players with 40-plus points and 20-plus goals apiece. All three signed NHL contracts with Vancouver, Chicago and St. Louis, respectively, following the conclusion of the season.
